Tutorial: Amicis Stripe Add-on Teen Proof

1.       Sew your bodice per instructions until you are finished with the shoulder seams. Take your sleeve add-on piece and draw an extra 1cm seam allowance to the sleeve.
1.A Your sleeve piece is looking like this now.
2.       Take your stripe piece. This stripe is cut on fold, so you have to double your measurements for the bindings.
You can use your stripe pattern piece for deciding where to add the binding straps- but this isn’t fixed. Just use it as a guide- I do that here on my example. But you can add as many straps on any place you want. You just have to measure the stripe once, double the amount since it is cut on fold and make as many binding straps you want and place them where you like to place them.
3.       Let’s start with the sleeve add-on pieces. You have 2 sets cut mirrored. Fold 1 cm in and another centimeter. Press and stitch them with 1 cm seam allowance.
4.      You sleeve pieces are looking like this now.
5.       For your straps, decide which width you prefer. I went for 1 cm wide straps. This means you cut a binding of 4cm wide.
 
I take my stripe as an example and mine is measuring 5,5cm on fold. This means the total width of my strip is 11 cm. I would like to add 6 binding straps per sleeve and that means I need 12 in total. 12 straps x 11 cm = 132 cm
(You can also cut per sleeve and cut 2 binding straps. For me this means 2x 66 cm per strap.
6.       After sewing you have a long binding strap or 2.
7.       Press the binding strap(s) back in the right form first before you cut them in pieces. In my case I cut 12 pieces from each 11 cm.
8.       When you use your stripe add-on piece as a guide, lay your sleeve add- on pieces with the topstitched sides to the stripe add-on and lay your cutted bindings on the markings. Pin the bindings to the wrong side of your sleeve add-ons with 1cm seam allowance.

9.       Stitch in the ditch from the sleeve topstitch line to secure all your binding straps.
10.       Topstitch again on the sleeve add-on after you secured all of your bindings strips with a 3 mm seam allowance. This prevents the binding straps from popping out.
11.       Pin and sew your sleeves add-ons to the bodice as far as you go and press the seam allowance to the bodice.
12.       Topstitch from the right side the entire sleeve and of course do the same with the other sleeve.
13.       Pin your cuff to the sleeve, stretch a little bit and sew in 1 time the cuff. Press the seam allowance down and topstitch as well.
1.       There is no step 14! You’re finished! Well, with the sleeves 😉  follow the original instructions to finish your top or dress.
